HI, WELCOME TO OUR BLOG
WHERE WE TELL GREAT STORIES

Planning weddings is hard. Trust us, we know! You'll have loads on your mind on the run up to your big day. Organising a wedding can be a nightmare and you probably have lists of things you need, lists things you want, lists of things you don't want, guest lists, lists of possible table plans... and there will undoubtedly be lists for things you haven’t even thought of yet!
Getting everything planned and ready takes time and effort, and we try to make booking and working with us on your wedding day as painless as possible. To help you out with that we've made another list for you!

✔ Stumble across your soul mate, get together, get engaged

✔ Tell your friends, celebrate and PARTY HARD

✔ Find the perfect wedding videographers to capture your day

☐ Tell us about you. What gets you up in the morning? How did you meet? What do you love about each other? Oh, and probably your wedding plans too...

☐ Get to know each other. We're going to spending one of the biggest days of your lives together, lets meet up and grab a coffee!

☐ Take a break from wedding planning. Go for a weekend getaway, marathon your favourite films or tv shows, whatever it is you do just DON'T talk about the wedding. Talk about life, laugh, and fall in love with each other all over again.

☐ Sit down and really think about why you love each other. Remember the feelings you had on your first date, hold on to them, write them down, allow those feelings to become unique material for your wedding vows and speeches.

☐ Ask around about your family traditions. Don't have any? Make up your own! It's your day and you can do what you want, and besides a tradition needs to start somewhere!

☐ Make the day yours. We love it when a couple have a wedding that really shows who they are. There are no rules when it comes to weddings so you don't have to do it the same as everyone else!

☐ Have an incredible wedding day. You've made it this far! All that's left now is to have the best day EVER! We'll be capturing all of your special moments on film forever. As videographer's it's our duty!

Wow, what a busy few months it's been! It would be easy to say that we've been run off our feet, although to be honest we've spent more time in the edit suite than anything else! It's a good thing that we enjoy all this hard work.

July 2015

Alexa and Reece

We actually filmed Alexa and Reece's wedding way back at the beginning of May and had an absolute blast. The only problem was that the weather conspired against us and the photoshoot session was called off.
We couldn't just let it sit and end there, so after the newly married couple got back from their honeymoon we sent them an email asking if they wanted to organise a second shoot date to capture some great footage for their wedding film. Thankfully they did and at the beginning of the month we filmed the 'missing' part of their wedding day.

Jill and Aaron

When Jill and Aaron contacted us we couldn't wait to film their wedding! When we showed up on the 24th June to shoot we felt right at home amongst their family and the bridal party. Grabbing a shot here, a different angle there and capturing more than our fair share of intimate moments it actually became quite a task to choose which shots were going to make it into the short film!
The shot below though was always destined to make it into the wedding film. It's easily the highest contender for our best shot of the year! It's understandable though, as Jill and Aaron chose the Orange Tree House as their reception location, which is an absolutely stunning space!

Maverick

The last time we worked with the Maverick boys was back in December, just before Christmas. We hired an aircraft hangar and got some awesome shots for their first music video with us. We filmed the majority of their new music video last month at the Belfast Empire, which is an incredible location with so much opportunity. We imagine we'll probably be back there in the future to shoot some more!
At the beginning of July we filmed some rain footage with our homemade rain machine at night in the middle of the countryside. It was dark, freezing cold and we got to stay completely dry! Pity the Maverick guys didn't!

Once we had wrapped the shoot it became time to sit down and put some serious effort into editing this new video. It has to be better than the last one after all! We spent weeks, syncing guitar solos, dropping in drum shots and sending plenty of updates to the band. Once we had the basic layout of the edit confirmed we then set about adding in dynamic effects to really give the edit some impact.

We're really happy about how the whole thing turned out and we hope Maverick have a blast when they go touring around Europe in the coming months!

August 2015

We spent the majority of August helping out other wedding videographers such as Cinematic Tide and various others as their wedding schedules were absolutely manic! We don't have any photos or footage to show for it ourselves but at least when the couples' wedding films are released we'll be able to sit back, watch it and know that we played a vital part in making it all happen.

Sian and Simon

Right at the very end of August we got to film Sian and Simon's big day! We were really looking forward to this wedding as the pair live and work in London but brought all of their English friends and family over to Belfast to share in their wedding celebrations!
To say that the wedding venue was incredible is an understatement. Have you ever seen the inside of Malone House!? It's HUGE!!

Sian and Simon were the second pair of winners from our Valentine's Day competition and we're looking forward to getting the chance to sit down, look the footage and edit everything together. that's all we have for this roundup post. We'll see you again next month!

Lets face it, wedding planning can be a pain in the arse. Honestly, it can! In an attempt to reduce the planning and workload on themselves some couples might look to hire a wedding or events planner. After all they do this kind of stuff every day, right?
But not you. You're either overly optimistic, eager for a challenge or just a complete control freak. Perhaps you're a mix of all three! We're going to assume you want to absolutely OWN your wedding. Who wants a traditional, run-of-the-mill wedding anyway?
So here are our top tips on how to completely rock your wedding day which will be easy on your budget and leave a lasting impression on all of your wedding guests!

1 - Keep it short

Your wedding is arguably one of the most important days of your lives together. But that doesn't mean you need to invite all of your guests round for what you promise to be the best day of that calendar year and then bore them to tears with the longest ceremony ever!
Think back through all of the weddings you've attended in your life. Of course you'll say they had great ceremonies and overall the day was great; but lets face it the only things you really remember and talk about was the moment they said "I do", some witty quips from the best mans speech and the free bar and dancing afterwards.
So how can you make the most important part of your day memorable and short? First of all start by getting married before your actual wedding date. Yes you read that right! In doing so you'll be free to write your own vows and take charge of how your ceremony pans out from start to finish without any third parties adding in an extra hymn here or another reading there. As an added bonus it'll keep your guests on their toes and they'll be talking about it for years to come!

2 - Go DIY

Albert Einstein once said "Creativity is intelligence having fun", so why not unleash your creative side and go DIY? Or at least for as much as you can do by yourself. There will inevitably be things you'll need to outsource, such as the wedding cake - unless you're very good at baking!
Taking a very hands on approach to the small things like invites, favours, and how the tables are dressed can really help keep your budget healthy. Not to mention everything is now hand made and oozing with your individual style and personality!
There are so many fantastic DIY websites out there that it's hard to take everything in. However we've found that instructables.com and theknot.com have fantastic tutorials on how to make almost everything for your wedding from scratch.

3 - It's not all about you

The whole point of a wedding is to get married to the one you love and have fun. But you need to remember about your guests too! If you want to hear the line "This is the best wedding ever!" from your guests then you're going to need to break away from the "It's my day" mentality.
You're going to need to take a step back and look at your wedding from a guests' perspective. Chances are they've attended their fair share of weddings and will know the basic format. They'll know what's coming next. Set yours apart by mixing things up, it's always a good idea to have a curveball 'event' of sorts to keep your guests on their toes.
What you choose to do is up to you. As long is it has plenty of thought and heaps of personality behind it then you're golden!

4 - Ditch the norm

If you've already started some planning for your wedding then you'll already know that as soon as anyone hears the words "It's for my wedding" come out of your mouth their eyes light up with excitement. Especially if those people work as dress designers or wedding venue providers. Whilst it's not fair of us to generalise everyone, it's more common than not that as soon as they know it's for a wedding the price literally doubles.
The best way to get around this? Simply break away from the norm. Don't buy a designer dress or go for a hotel venue. There are plenty of alternatives to be had and they can really help you cut down on the budget for things that are far more important. For example you can usually buy secondhand or vintage dresses and then have them modified to suit your tastes for a fraction of the price of a new one. These types of 'budget' dresses are usually frowned upon by a large majority of brides to be and we have absolutely no idea why as  we think they often look more stunning than their designer counterparts!
The same applies to wedding venues. You're more likely to be able to work out a great deal to rent out a local restaurant or pub as your reception location rather than spend a small fortune hiring out a hotel venue. Not to mention a local pub is going to have far more character and personality over a hotel dining room.

5 - Don't skimp on the good stuff

Now you've saved heaps by cutting costs elsewhere in your budget what are you going to do with the healthy remainder you have left? That's easy! Spend it on good food, great booze and anything else you consider essential for the big day!
Trust us when we say you want to keep your guests plied well with food and drink. Happy tummies equals happy guests. Especially if they're children! Well thought out food and when it's served out helps to keep the mood laid back and guests chatting away to each other. When it comes to the speeches your guests should be giving you their full attention because they want to, not because you're keeping them from their grub!
You'll also want to spend some of that money on professional photographers and videographers (like us!) to capture your day. Having those images and videos to look back on when your wedding is over will be priceless. Not to mention that they will be much better than those slightly out of focus photos that heavily feature Great Aunt Marge's thumb in the bottom left hand corner, or whatever your Uncle Bob thinks he can do with his 30 year old tape camera!

It's pretty fair to say that we've been very lax when it comes to our social media and content sharing as of late, but that doesn't mean that we've been sitting around and twiddling our thumbs every day! In fact that couldn't be farther from the truth!
In order to set things straight we've decided to try our best to make a roundup post every month (or two) to show you guys exactly what happens behind the scenes at Amber Tree Filmhouse.

As this is our first blog post since February, a truly appalling effort, we have a lot to cover. So much so that we're just going to highlight our best bits!

March 2015

We spent a lot of time in the edit suite this month. Between doing rush edits for our friends over at Cinematic Tide and Speedmotion Films we also worked on an incredibly intensive animation right before Easter, to be released on Good Friday!
It was tough work but overall an incredibly rewarding project to work on.

We also had the opportunity to work with Jim Crone, a massively talented DP from Northern Ireland, alongside an emerging rock band 'The Irontown Diehards'. Their finished music video is below.

April 2015

April was a month of extremes for us. On one hand we had an incredible amount of filming to do for other companies and then on the other hand we had what felt like one of the longest and most confusing jobs on the planet.

The highlight of this month though was heading over to Loch Lomond in Scotland to film a wedding for NUVU Photography. It was such a great wedding and a stunning location! I mean who wouldn't want to get married with this kind of view?!?!

May 2015

We were super excited when May came round because we got to film Alexa and Reece's wedding! They were the first couple to be randomly chosen from our Valentine's Day competition and after speaking to them we really got to understand how much they loved each other and what they had planned for their big day.
Unfortunately on the day of the wedding the elements tried to conspire against us in an attempt to cancel the ceremony which was being held inside a tipi. Yes, that's right. A tipi. How cool is that?
Luckily everything carried on without a hitch and Alexa and Reece successfully tied the knot!

June 2015

Things got pretty hectic for us when June came round. We worked alongside various others on a number of different projects and were even brought on, pretty last minute, to help at a wedding.

Aside from that we also finally got to film Jill and Aaron's wedding which was absolutely incredible from start to finish! These pair are a very genuine couple and we got some incredible footage from their big day. Don't believe us? Just wait until we get their wedding film edited and released into the untamed wilds of the internet!

We also began to shoot Maverick's latest and greatest music video for their favourite song "Got It Bad" from their debut album "Quid Pro Quo". We're quite excited to get back on set with these guys as they are really good fun to work with. Plus we have a few surprises up our sleeves that will be making it into the video, so that's something to look forward to!

We often hear the phrase "Romance is dead". And in today's modern world it would be very easy to believe, especially considering how we have streamlined everything to perfection, including our social lives and interactions with each other. However, if you look past the hustle and bustle of society you'll see that romance is still alive and kicking, and if anything it's slightly more exciting than it was before!

You see, the idea of romance as you know it was formed centuries ago when it was common to court a lady with your well-worn and finely honed wit, writing letters that were tantamount to small novels, purchasing the finest trinkets to show affection and lavishly playing to your artistic and musical strengths.
Nowadays letters have been swapped out with short, frequent texts and trinkets most likely replaced by a massive bar of chocolate.
This is all well and good of course however why is it that everyone still believes romance is well and truly dead? And more importantly how can we fix this?

Honestly the best way to rectify this is to work in classic, tender, old school gestures of love and affection into your daily lives. No we're not suggesting that you write your significant other a sonnet or attempt to buy them an island retreat. Instead here's a quick roundup of the things that we find the most romantic!

1 - Hugs from behind

Who doesn't love hugs? They're warm, reassuring and infinitely better when they're from the person you love more than life itself. Hugs from behind are surprising and allow you to completely melt into your lovers arms.

2 - Walks on the beach

Not just the normal kind though. Make it fun, make it interesting! Run up ahead, write something in the sand and call your partner forward to look at what you 'found'. Alternatively try and make sand sculptures of each other!

3 - It's the little things...

You love your partner. Of course you do! But sometimes it's hard for people to love themselves the way you love them. We're about to change that! Tell your partner why you love them, list all of their good points, tiny habits, the way their smile brightens your day, oh and don't forget that cute freckle hiding on their back! The point is to make them aware that you notice and really care about them, even if it's the littlest of little things!

4 - Kings and Queens

Want to make the art of romancing more fun? Have a King or Queen day! This means one of you now has complete control of the other for the whole day. Feel like having an upper back massage? Simply say the word and your partner has to do it! A word of warning though! Don't be too mean to your underling as they may return the favour with interest when it's their turn the next time!

5 - Wear a signature scent

Find a scent that makes them blush. Some scientists somewhere with too much time on their hands have discovered that particular smells make your partner go nuts for you. If it makes them blush or smile you're onto a winner! Don't lather yourself in it though, you don't want to suffocate your significant other in an overpowering wave of scent!

6 - Write a love letter

Remember point number three? All of that practicing verbalising what you love about your partner will really help you out here! If you're heading away for a few days on a trip be sure to write a love letter with everything you'll miss about them until you get back. It doesn't even have to be sappy! Chances are you know each others sense of humour and can make things side splittingly hilarious. Go the extra mile and actually post it to your address or even add a touch of your signature scent to the letter!

7 - Petal trail

Next time your partner is out of the house grab some roses, or any other pretty flowers, and leave a trail of petals throughout the house. Lead them to the bedroom and have everything you need for the night already prepared. Wait for them to come home and enjoy a night you're both unlikely to forget for a long time!

What would you do if one of the UK's best up and coming rock bands asks you to shoot a music video for them?
Well if you're anything like us you'd fist pump the air, shout loudly with excitement and then mash the keys on your keyboard until you have something that looks like an email saying yes you'll take the job on.

For a number of reasons we knew from the get go that this would be an incredibly fun gig for us, primarily the fact that the guys from Maverick are down to earth and full of energy. I guess you could say that it's in their blood!

The whole shoot was somewhat of a whirlwind from start to finish. In fact our turnaround from pre-production to final draft in the edit suite was just under three weeks. An incredible feat if we say so ourselves!
To set the ball rolling we knew the band were after a particular aesthetic for the video, portraying that they started from nothing and are now climbing their way up the ladder of their music career. With this as a lead to go on we set about finding various locations that could work visually well in telling this aspect and would provide us with enough room to run around and really capture the band's energy.
That's when we stumbled upon the idea of shooting in an air hangar. An industrial type visual would look incredible as a way to show the band's roots and their rise.

As soon as the band set up and we turned both the lighting and our cameras on, on the day of the shoot, we could tell that we were onto an absolute winner. The visuals looked amazing, the band played with all they had and the hangar was so cold that everyone's breathing was giving us free special effects!
We took take after take, varying shots, actions, lenses and the whole thing just came together perfectly. After wrapping at the air hangar and a quick lunch break we headed to the band's own practice room for some extra footage as back-ups and cutaways.

It possibly could have been because the air hangar was so large that the practice room seemed cramped, however we set up and shot round two of the music video.

When we wrapped the shoot it was clear to see the band were as excited as we were to lay their eyes on a first draft and get that next step closer to releasing a new video. So we wasted no time in transferring and editing the footage!
Once we sent the first draft to the guys and they were able to see why we were so starry eyed when looking through the camera, we were able to truly collaborate on what shot went where, who needed more screen time and just tweaking and fine tuning everything to make the video the best that it could be!

By the time it came to the final cut and grade of the music video our flabber had been well and truly gasted as to how amazing the final product looked. When we finally sent it off to the Maverick guys they came back to us with exclamations of "It's the best thing I've ever seen!" and other such wild and fantastical statements, and whilst we think they're a tad biased we completely agree with them!

If you haven't seen the video yet then there's no time like the present!

Remember to show Maverick your support by heading over to their official Facebook page and hitting that 'like' button! You should also definitely buy their debut album 'Quid Pro Quo' because it is some mighty fine listening. We'll have it blasting in the office for months to come!

It's not very often that we have the opportunity to spend a day drooling over a collection of motorbikes and it's even rarer that we get to base our film around a couple's their shared love of motorbikes!

From we first met Diane and Dougie we just knew their wedding was going to be special. Aside from the pair getting married it hardly followed a normal wedding ceremony at all! Opting to take two separate days to spread their wedding across made the whole experience have a really chilled and easy going vibe. On their wedding day we were surprised at how quickly the ceremony flew by, giving everyone plenty of time to just socialise, kick back, relax and just enjoy the day.
Strangely this is something we rarely get to see on wedding days as often a cram packed schedule keeps us on our toes, so this was a fantastic change of pace!

Diane and Dougie are a very genuine and sincere couple and we were made to feel really welcome when we had their photoshoot in their garden! Yes, that's right! Those really nice shots of the pair walking through the trees and sitting on the swing-bench is their garden!

The second day of Diane and Dougie's wedding celebrations weren't actually until three days after their ceremony! We definitely think holding off until Halloween night was a great idea to have a party! We've seen plenty of themed weddings before but this blew everyhting else we've seen out of the water. Yes, we might be slightly biased because Dougie has an absolutely stunning collection of motorbikes but the party itself was still undoubtedly one of the best atmosphere's we've experienced.
Again this was at their
house with live music, some incredible costumes (we're looking at you Evel Knieval!), and plenty of laughter and merry making!

Once we finished up filming those two days and headed back to our editing cave we began to think about how great it would be if we could build up a narrative about Diane and Dougie's shared love of motorbikes. It's how they met up believe it or not!
We quickly picked up the phone dialled their number and set about organising a third shoot day. And boy are we glad we did! Seeing and hearing the Victory rumble off down the driveway we just knew we'd made the right decision and we think their short film just wouldn't be the same without it.

All that's left to say is congrats to Diane and Dougie. You guys are great together!
